The Reciprocal Teaching Strategy is a technique that students can use to increase their comprehension of difficult texts. One way of teaching it is called ?reciprocal teaching only?, where the strategy is not introduced to the students prior to the group discussions (Allen, 2003). Students take turns assuming the role of teacher in order to guide the group’s discussion in an organized and comprehensive manner. It encourages students to think about their own thought process during reading. This technique is common in our school. After reading the text, student leaders ask their group (usually 4-5 students) questions about what they have just read. This teaching technique is often said to be a scaffolded or supported discussion technique where students are taught to use strategies, questioning, clarifying, summarizing, and predicting, in a collaborative text-based dialogue[1]. I love this method and my kindergarten students have just completed story maps.
