The Car Design Tokyo Forum was held once again at the Andaz Toranomon Hills in Tokyo on Tuesday, 22 October 2019 the day before the Tokyo motor show.
Presented in association with the Japanese Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA) and first held in 2015, this exclusive bi-annual event gathered the design leaders of major car manufacturers to present and discuss the challenges and opportunities facing mobility design in 2019.
Much has changed in the two years since the last Forum was held – electric vehicles are now mainstream in China and an autonomous and shared-mobility future draws ever closer.
Can designers predict how the seismic changes shaking the car industry will play out? New platforms, new energy sources, shared mobility and advances in the connected car have created a perfect storm of upheaval. The Tokyo Forum 2019 revealed design strategies and designers discussed overcoming the numerous challenges facing the automotive industry with creative solutions.
Topics for discussion this year included new mobility solutions, putting the emotion in electric vehicles and the interior space.
Confirmed speakers for this year’s Car Design Forum Tokyo included Honda’s Makoto Iwaki, Nissan’s Satoru Tai, Renault’s Anthony Lo, SAIC’s Shao Jinfeng, Toyota’s Simon Humphries and Changan’s Chen Zheng.
